Spintires: MudRunner Stream Recap

The one downside to this game is that the default soundtrack isn't the Red Army Choir

Mike and Locke took on the challenge a few years ago, and last night, Locke and Jason did their best to overcome mud and surprisingly deep rivers in Spintires: MudRunner. They had... some... success?

When we checked out the original game, I was a mere bystander to Mike and Locke's hijinks. This time, I decided to dive deep into all that mud, and boy, there is a lot of it.

While on some level this is an interesting tech demo for terrain deformation and mud physics, there's also a relaxing "sim" quality to this. Another title for this game could be "Mud Trucking Simulator 2017" as most of what you're doing is attempting to haul some load from one place to another. In the more "hardcore" mode this often means having to take two trucks to one place and using one of them to pick up the load, and the other to haul it. Regardless, there's a definite permeation of cooperation throughout. Having a few friends around to take on different roles, like one being the person to drive around and refuel everyone, another to do scouting, and so forth, makes the experience more enjoyable than playing it alone. We have some goofy, dumb fun, and sometimes that's exactly what you need in a game.

While this is a kind of remake/redux of the original Spintires, it does have some enhancements/additions over that one. The graphics have been updated, there are new challenges, and a "Sandbox" map. Best of all, if you own the original Spintires, then you can pick this up on Steam at a 50% discount. I am hesitant to recommend this at its current $30 price tag, but definitely keep an eye on it. If it drops down in price for any of the various Steam sales and you're looking for something new/different to play with friends, then I think it's worth picking up.
