Rebellion's Sniper Elite series is the most venerable and successful series of sniping games out there. Heck, one of my first reviews for our site was 2012's Sniper Elite V2. Time flies in real life, but not so much in Sniper Elite 5, which, like previous entries, takes place during World War II. The new game sees series protagonist Karl Fairburne fighting to stop the Nazi's Operation Kraken. Xbox, PlayStation, and PC gamers will get the chance to get kraken when Sniper Elite 5 launches on May 26.
Sniper Elite 5 will feature:
- ADVANCED GUNPLAY PHYSICS AND TRAVERSAL
- HIGH CALIBRE CUSTOMISATION
- INVASION MODE – CAMPAIGN DROP IN PvP AND CO-OP
- TENSE ADVERSARIAL PvP
- CO-OP SURVIVAL MODE
- ENHANCED KILL CAM
Invasion is an intriguing new mode in which players can not only drop in for 2-player campaign co-op, but they can also drop in to play as enemy snipers. We're all about the co-op around here, but it's exciting when games find new ways to blend elements of cooperation and competition.
In addition to Invasion and traditional campaign co-op, Sniper Elite 5 will also see the return of the series' popular Survival Mode. There, up to four online players can team up to face off against waves of enemy soldiers. Extra modes like Survival tend to be lots of fun in these games, so we're glad to see it back.
Season Pass and Preorder Details
Rebellion games are famous (or infamous) for their post-launch DLC, and Sniper Elite 5 will be no exception. The game will be sold in a standard edition and a $89.99 deluxe edition that includes the Season Pass.
The Season Pass will include the following DLC:
- Two Campaign Missions
- Two Weapon skin packs
- Two Character Packs
- Six Weapon Packs
Gamers who preorder the standard or deluxe editions will get a cool preorder bonus mission DLCs. The main bonus is the ‘Target Führer’ campaign mission, “Wolf Mountain.” As with past games, this mission will task players with sneaking into a stronghold (this time in the Bavarian Alps) and eliminating the Führer in creative ways. Additionally, preorders for the Deluxe Edition will include the P.1938 Suppressed Pistol for a little added firepower.
Sniper Elite 5 will launch on Thursday, May 26 on Xbox, PlayStation, Steam, Epic, and the Windows Store. Console versions cost $59.99 to preorder, and PC versions sell for $49.99. Sniper Elite 5 will also be available on Xbox Game Pass, so practically everybody gets a chance to snipe some villainous Axis soldiers. Switch gamers will probably have a long wait for a port (unannounced), but they will be getting the spin-off, Zombie Army 4, soon.
