TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection Arrives on August 30 with Bodacious Co-op

13 classic TMNT games (6 with co-op) are headed our way.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Cowabunga Collection, Konami's collection of 8-bit and 16-bit TMNT games, was first announced back in March. At the time, we expected it to come out before the hotly anticipated TMNT: Shredder's Revenge. That didn't happen, but the end is nearly insight, dudes. Konami has announced that The Cowabunga Collection will launch on consoles and PC on August 30. Now that we know the collection's release date, let's break down its co-op features.

The Cowabunga Collection will collect 13 TMNT games from 1989-1994:

Games with online and local co-op

  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1989, Arcade, 4 players)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time (1991, Arcade, 4 players)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist (1992, Sega Genesis, 2 players)

Games with local co-op only

  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game (NES, 2 players)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project (1992, NES, 2 players)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time (1992, Super Nintendo, 2 players)

TMNT: The Hyperstone Heist

TMNT: The Hyperstone Heist

Games without co-op

  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1989, NES)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters (1994, NES)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters (1993, Super Nintendo)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters (1993, Sega Genesis)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of The Foot Clan (1990, Game Boy)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: Back From The Sewers (1991, Game Boy)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: Radical Rescue (1993, Game Boy)

The collection will include a fair number of enhancements and bonus features, including widescreen borders, save states, rewinding, button remapping, and concept art. Additionally, all games but TMNT (Arcade) and TMNT: Tournament Fighters (NES) will include Japanese versions as well. That's a shell of a lot of content!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection is due out on August 30. It will be released physically and digitally on Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch; and digitally on Steam. The price will be $39.99, and there will be a limited edition as well. In the meantime, check out our co-op review of TMNT: Shredder's Revenge!
