Scarlet Moon Records, the leading producer of video game music albums, recently announced the thirteenth album in its long-running Prescription for Sleep series. The new album, Prescription for Sleep: Game Music Lullabies Volume III (several albums in the series aren't numbered), will include 12 piano/jazz renditions of songs from classic games. Most excitingly for us, two of the cover songs will come from co-op games: Diablo and Legend of the Mystical Ninja.
The full Prescription for Sleep: Game Music Lullabies Volume III track list includes:
- Windmill Hut (The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time)
- Theme of Prontera (Ragnarok Online)
- Boomer Kuwanger (Mega Man X)
- Tristram (Diablo)
- This Dream (NieR)
- Eruyt Village (Final Fantasy XII)
- Yeul's Theme (Final Fantasy XIII-2)
- Traveling in the Town of Hagure (Legend of the Mystical Ninja)
- Kraid (Metroid)
- Rosenkranz (SaGa Frontier II)
- Trading Town of Redmond (Ys III: Wanderers from Ys)
- Daybreak (Original)
While we haven't listened to the upcoming album yet, it's easy to check out the original versions of these songs on YouTube. In the original Diablo, Tristram serves as the hub city from which players set out on adventures. The music that plays there is both atmospheric and memorable. Tristram also appears in Diablo II and III, eventually getting destroyed by the forces of evil.
As for Legend of the Mystical Ninja (also known as Ganbare Goemon: The Rescue of Princess Yuki) from Konami, the game itself is a top-down/side-scrolling platformer/adventure game starring the legendary thief, Goemon, and his friend Ebisumaru. "Traveling in the Town of Hagure" is a fairly deep cut in that you won't find many versions of it on YouTube, but it's certainly a pleasantly peppy tune.
Prescription for Sleep: Game Music Lullabies Volume III will arrive on digital music storefronts on Friday, May 19. Preorder it now for $8.99 at Amazon Music.
