After emerging from early access and launching on consoles in the fall, Bang-On Balls: Chronicles from Exit Plan Games was not done. It still had more balls to bang on. As promised a few weeks back, the game has now received Xbox Series S|X and PlayStation 5 upgrades, allowing for even higher resolutions of balls to bang. In seriousness, the game is pretty bangin', especially in 4-player online co-op.
Bang-On Balls: Chronicles features:
Glorious bouncy 3D platforming and combat with razor-sharp controls.
Smash, dash, and steamroll around massive, highly destructible, open-world maps.
Absolutely loaded with content. Fight foes, rescue allies, take on multiple objectives, uncover secrets, and collect treasure troves of themed items and weapons. Each map has its own unique mechanics, boss fights, secrets, items, and themes.
Bounce around history as each map is set in an interesting historical era - Vikings, Pirates, Space Race or Feudal Japan with more to come as post-release support.
Customize your character with 400 items - flags, weapons, shields, hats, masks, tattoos, boats etc. and all collected from playing. No paid cosmetic DLCs
Up to 4-player online co-op and 2-player split screen. Seamlessly jump in and out of sessions with friends and keep everything you’ve collected.
As for today's update, it adds 4K visuals at 60 FPS on Xbox Series X and PlayStation, and 1080P visuals at 60 FPS on Xbox Series S. The bang-on balls have never looked smoother! I do wish the game had the option to turn off motion blur, though. Motion blur is definitely not bangin'.
As for the game, it's a 3D platformer in which players customize their ball characters from a variety of options, exploring a hub world and then setting out on adventures in expansive levels. In my experience, it runs beautifully on Xbox Series X. We look forward to playing more online co-op and split-screen as we prepare for a full co-op review.
Bang-On Balls: Chronicles sells for $24.99 on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and Steam.
