Hammerwatch II's journey to Xbox has been long and perilous. After first launching on Steam in the fall of 2023, the game finally turned up on PlayStation 5 last December. Since then, Xbox gamers who enjoyed the original Hammerwatch and the sublime Heroes of Hammerwatch have been anxiously awaiting their turn at the long-promised sequel. At last, the wait is nearly over because Hammerwatch II will hit Xbox and PlayStation 4 on April 23.
The official description of the game tells us:
Journey through Hammer Island, the Fallowfields and the dark mountainous regions of Blackbarrow, all created in the signature Hammerwatch pixelated art style, as you work to aid King Roland’s resistance against Blight the Horrible and his dragon army. Build a custom Herian Hero and choose between five distinct character classes: Paladin, Ranger, Rogue, Wizard and Warlock before customizing your appearance and leveling up to unlock powerful new abilities and skills.

We have spent some time with the PlayStation 5 version of Hammerwatch II, leaving us cautiously excited for the new Xbox version. To be honest, the PlayStation version was pretty messy only a few weeks ago. Online co-op games will randomly drop players, and then they simply cannot rejoin the game. Continuing an online game with a previously created character also seems to be impossible. You basically have to play single player if you want to get anywhere.
These are major issues that Modus Games and Maximum Games need to fix. We dearly hope the Xbox version won't have either problem. The actual game is really cool and intriguing, but the 4-player online co-op feature needs to work properly. It's a pretty big selling point!
Hammerwatch II costs $24.99 on PlayStation 5, Switch, and Steam. The Chronicles Edition, meanwhile, sells for $39.99 and includes all three Hammerwatch games. The Xbox and PlayStation 4 versions will arrive on Tuesday, April 23.
