Alien Hominid Invasion, the Behemoth's long-awaited follow-up to Alien Hominid HD, is a highly cooperative run and gun shooter. Up to four co-op players can team up and complete short, wacky levels as they strive to level up and unlock new gear. Naturally, a game with such a big focus on multiplayer runs needs new content to keep it fresh. That's just what the "Juicy Variety Update," which first arrived on Steam and has now landed on consoles, does. The update offers an invasion of new environments, new objectives, and new enemies to keep things exciting.
Alien Hominid Invasion is a spin-off that teams up to four local or online players up in horde mode-like 2D stages. The team will have to complete various objectives while they blast away at never-ending armies of human and robotic bad guys. After completing enough objectives, players race to the extraction point in order to complete the level. After clearing several stages, players will stop at a hideout where they can bank the loot they've found so far and purchase new equipment. Fail a level before then, and you won't get to keep the new stuff you picked up! It's a fun and challenging game structure that encourages replay and cooperation.
The "Juicy Variety Update" features:
New mutation (class): The Orbiter
New hazards (level modifiers) including the all new Grind Lines, for when you feel like skating a half-pipe while invading Earth
An all-new, formidable [frog] foe that turns into a vehicle upon defeat: The MECHA F.R.O.G.
Three new hand-drawn level areas and background art
More powerful loot modifiers and brand new ones as well, such as the ability to drop bombs when you roll or dive
A Behemoth amount of balances, adjustments, and fixes, like a revamp of the C.H.O.M.P.E.R. checkpoint levels (hunt for Keybots on the go!) and the highly requested increase to danger level; you can now stay twice as long in a single level before being overwhelmed, but look out for similar scaling with enemies and projectiles!
The Ice Cream Man is here! (no additional context needed)
The new content sounds like a welcome addition to the game. Greater variety and even more things to shoot should help keep the game from growing stale.
Alien Hominid Invasion sells for $19.99 on Xbox, Switch, and Steam. Invasion is also available in a bundle with Alien Hominid HD, recently remastered for modern platforms, for a grand total of $24.99.
