Oh Look, Polaris Came Out on Steam

The co-op shooter features destructible buildings and terrain, and it costs a mere ten bucks.

Remember when Variable State, the developer of Virginia (the game, not the state), announced a PC shooter called Polaris would be coming in 2024? Well, it actually came out in early 2025, but that's pretty common in game development. The important part is that Polaris is here, baby, and it sells for only ten bucks.

Official description:

COOPERATIVE PVE EXTRACTION

Take flight with up to 3 other players for 4 player team-oriented gameplay, focused around guerilla warfare against the Regime.

It's your team vs the environment. Get in, wage a guerrilla war of resistance, and destroy as much enemy infrastructure as you can on the way out!

Polaris

A PLAYGROUND OF DESTRUCTION

Battle through completely destructible cityscapes. Smash, destroy, and otherwise tear down the Regime's infrastructure of oppression over the course of every match. Each session is unique, with a reactive and ever-evolving combat environment.

Carve doorways out of walls, tunnel through terrain, and unleash an arsenal of destruction!

TURN THE TOOLS OF YOUR ENEMY AGAINST THEM

Assume the mantle of Skylancer and reclaim the birthright of your ancestors. Fly, extract, and resist the Regime's war of conquest!

Steam reviews are decidedly mixed, with complaints about the poor single-player experience and lack of content. That said, I've always thought that Polaris looks fun, and I hope that Variable State continues to update and refine this one into shape. It's only ten bucks, so building a co-op team amongst friends won't exactly break the bank.

Polaris sells for $9.99 on Steam.
