"Probably," says Geoff Keighley, in his new iTunes app/article: The Final Hours of Portal 2. The multimedia piece offers a striking look at the inner workings of Valve Software, the makers of such industry staples as Half-Life, Team Fortress, Left 4 Dead, and their sequels. The Final Hours of Portal 2 is an online article currently for sale at the iTunes store. To access it you need only to follow the link above. The most intriguing portion of co-op news come from a conversation Keighley heard between between Gabe Newell, Valve's founder, and Erik Johnson, the company's project manager:
Portal 2 will probably be Valve's last game with an isolated single-player experience...What this all means is something Newell is still trying to figure out.
Does this mean a co-op Half-Life 3? Hopefully. I just hope that it doesn't require two to four players to play. Left 4 Dead and Lost Planet 2 are good examples of fantastic games that don't hold up very well when played solo (as in, screw it, I'd rather read a book). I've read enough of the Co-Optimus forums to know that some of you think every game should have full co-op, and some of you think some games are better as single-player-only experiences. Personally, I really enjoyed what a game like Portal 2 had to offer, seperate amazing single player and co-operative experiences. I also like a campaign I can choose to enjoy with a friend (story and logic be damned). I'm all for having co-op in almost anything, such as co-op modes, co-op campaign, survival mode, etc., as long as the 'main' game can still be played solo. (I don't want to punish people who don't have friends to game with. They're miserable enough already.) How about you, dear readers? What do you guys think?
