Beyond Co-Op: November 4th through 10th, 2012

Welcome to a slightly late but still delightful edition of Beyond Co-Op, our weekly wrap-up of non-cooperative gaming news.

This week's stories:

  • THQ delays South Park and other games
  • The Elder Scroll: Skyrim 'Dragonborn' DLC announced
  • Xbox 360 USB drive capacity upgraded to 32 GB
  • My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic now available for iOS and Android

THQ delays South Park and other games

South Park: The Stick of Truth

THQ publicly switched to a quality-over-quantity approach a while back, promising to release only top-tier titles going forward. Of those upcoming games, South Park: The Stick of Truth and Metro: Last Light are undoubtedly the most promising. Unfortunately, this week company president Jason Rubin announced that South Park, Metro: Last Light, and Company of Heroes 2 have all been pushed back to fiscal year 2014 (April-June 2013). The delay stems from each title needing a little more time in development in order to reach its full potential. Me, I don't mind waiting as long as South Park turns out as great as it looks. Let's just hope that news of next-gen consoles won't overshadow these games' releases.

The Elder Scroll: Skyrim 'Dragonborn' DLC announced

I'm ashamed to say that I haven't even played Skyrim yet, despite sinking over 200 hours into Oblivion long ago. Someday I'll find the time. By then, the next Skyrim DLC installment, 'Dragonborn' will be available. It's scheduled to release December 4 for 1600 Microsoft points/$20. Many gamers were disappointed with the previous DLC release, so hopefully this one turns out better.

Xbox 360 USB drive capacity upgraded to 32 GB

Most Xbox 360 users rely on a hard drive for storage, but the system does support other options like USB sticks. Previously, the console could only read up to 16 GB on a stick. However, a few months ago an update quietly rolled out that bumped the limit up to 32 GB per stick. Why Microsoft didn't publicize the improvement, we'll never know. Joystiq just reported on the increase, so I figured we might as well do the same.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic now available for iOS and Android

Believe it or not, the current My Little Pony animated series, Friendship is Magic is actually pretty terrific. The art is both expressive and unique, and the writing is solid and humorous. Basically, even guys who like kids cartoons could enjoy it, not just little girls. Mobile gaming giant Gameloft has decided to get in on a piece of that Pinky Pie, releasing a freemium Friendship is Magic game for both iOS and Android. The city-building game includes an assortment of three minigames, some great art, and authentic voice talent from the show. If you have a little one who watches the show, giving the mobile game a download wouldn't be a bad idea.
