More details have been revealed for the dark fantasy PlayStation Vita exclusive, Soul Sacrifice. The four player cooperative title features a system that will allow players to save or sacrifice defeated enemies as well as critically wounded co-op partners. Once you've beaten an enemy you will be given the choice of saving the creature's soul, or sacrificing it for your own gain. There will be consequences.
As you can see in the screen captured above, saving the Rat's Berserk soul will reward the player with life. Sacrificing the soul will give the player more magic, but also cost the player a small amount of health. Your decisions will craft your character, allowing you to focus on offense or defense, or a mix of the two. Saving souls will increase your defense and healing abilities over time, while sacrificing creatures will increase your magical power. I can already tell I'll be making a glass cannon.
We're still not clear on what will happen if you save or sacrifice your co-op partner. What are the consequences for sacrificing a fellow player? Are they gone forever, banished to some digital hell? Or will they respawn in time? Seriously. I really want to know. Maybe if I can get my hands on a Vita I can put my Japanese PSN ID to use.... Make sure you play with someone you trust, or at least someone who trusts you.
The game will also feature a full orchestral score composed by Wataru Hokoyama (Afrika, Resident Evil 5). Take a listen to the music from one of the many challenges players will face in the world of Soul Sacrifice.
Soul Sacrifice supports four player online co-op. It will launch in the PlayStation Vita on April 30th.
