A few weeks back Rebellion re-released that classic Aliens vs Predator title on Steam to build up some hype for the new Aliens vs Predator game coming to 360, PS3, and PC next month. And while the original game had a co-op style survival mode for four players, it wasn't exactly playable in the re-release due to the lack of servers.
A little while back we posted a video from Koei's upcoming XBox 360 and PS3 port of Dynasty Warriors Strikeforce that featured giant tigers, dogs, and phoenixes. But before that happens the founders of Penny Arcade, who created PAX, will be honored at another gaming convention - GDC.
Codemasters has just released patch version 1.02 for the four player co-op Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising on PC. The patch includes a host of bug fixes and tweaks, but more importantly, it includes the Overwatch DLC content.
Last week Capcom announced two brand new characters to use in Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition's Mercenaries Mode. We had the screenshots to prove it. The next Borderlands DLC has been unveiled courtesy of Destructoid. Called The Secret Armory of General Knoxx, the content claims to have a "huge new environment" as well as plenty of experience to be earned by your level 34 to 50 character.
At the recent CES convention, Microsoft unveiled their new retro-arcade social channel called the "Microsoft Game Room" which will allow players to play original gaming titles (many of which were co-op in their original state) together on the Xbox 360. This Game Room will have original, unaltered arcade classics at your disposal. However, if you were one of the many people interested in the retro arcade titles available on Xbox LIVE Arcade, including Turtles in Time: Re-shelled, Bionic Commando: Rearmed, or Contra, when the new "Microsoft Game Room" launches you'll be re-buying those titles.
Really, one of the toughest things when writing articles like this is to avoid lame jokes. Rather than subject you annoying, half-funnies like booty, matey, and Davey Jones references, we'll just talk about the game. 4 player brawler Pirates Plund-Arrrr is being released for the Wii. Screenshots look similar to Castle Crashers, and, according to the release below, gameplay sounds similar, too. Cute characters, beat-em-up action, and "razor-sharp meat cleavers" sound like a good mix. Expect Pirates Plund-Arrrr to hit 'round spring. Hey! I made it through the news post without a joke. I'd say my respectability as a game journalist just went up. Or did it, sharp eyed reader?
It seems like just yesterday I was talking about our 1 year anniversary. Time sure does fly. Today Co-Optimus turns two and the Staff and I are extremely proud of what we've accomplished. Co-Op gaming is more popular than ever; developers, publishers, and gamers have all joined in on the Co-Op Revolution.
Ubisoft recently held a Q&A with Splinter Cell Conviction Multiplayer Producer, Patrick Redding, on Facebook. While the focus of the session was to allow people to ask questions about Mr. Redding's job and how certain aspects of the industry work, it wasn't long before Splinter Cell Conviction questions popped up.
Cliff Bleszinski, of Epic Games, is promising an important announcement coming soon. Yes, yes, we get it: announcing announcements is irritating. But considering CliffyB's involvement in the co-op megahit Gears of War franchise, it's certainly worth mentioning. How incredible is this news going to be? According to Mr. Bleszinski:
