I was fan of the original State of Decay and the way it implemented loot-runs with survival and permadeath mechanics. The only thing missing from it was co-op, which the sequel will happily rectify. As I excited as I am to play it, the announcement of a "Collector's Edition" this morning gave me a bit of a pause. Not so much because of what's included, but specifically what's EXCLUDED - a copy of the game.
Over the weekend, Epic announced that cross-play and cross-progression support would be added to the Xbox One version at some point of Fortnite: Save the World (PvE co-op) and Fortnite: Battle Royale (PvP) to allow those players to team up with friends on the PC/Mac. While this means that those players will now be able to team up with PS4 players OR Xbox One players when taking on the husks, there is still no cross-play between the PS4 and Xbox One.
ToyLogic has announced that Happy Wars will be shutting down on both the Xbox 360 and PC platforms on December 17th, 2018. Unfortunately, Happy Wars does not appear to be part of Xbox Backwards Compatibility, meaning anyone who wants to continue fighting will either have to re-purchase it for the Xbox One, or hope that Microsoft adds the game to their lineup before December.

Lion Games Co. Ltd. kicked off a free beta of their newest title, SoulWorker, on February 26th. The title is posted as a Free-To-Play MMO (although Rock Paper Shotgun’s time in game didn’t convey that). The game posting has a number of features that will be available “at launch,” but since this is a beta, it appears as though more content will continue to be added. What the timeframe is for that content, or what it will entail, has not been mentioned.
The Co-Opticrew is taking some time this weekend for a little early Spring Cleaning. Specifically, we'll be cleaning hordes of talking rats out of the gutters and alleyways of the Old World in Vermintide 2. It's a tough job, but luckily, we stopped by our local hardware store and grabbed a few new pyromancy spells and various bludgeoning tools. Those should help do the trick.
Fatshark's Warhammer: Vermintide 2 dropped on the PC yesterday, so we got the usual Monday night stream crew to see if we've gotten any better since the original. In short: just barely.
Yesterday, Nintendo held one of their occasional "Nintendo Direct" events and revealed a few new things that will be heading to the Switch and 3DS over the coming months. While the one announcement that's probably got most folks excited is the new Super Smash Bros coming sometime this year (and hey, maybe it'll have co-op like the past few), our ears perked up at the mention of co-op in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes.
Just when you think the whole "zombie" thing is over, another game, book, or movie pops up just to prove that it will never truly be dead. Luckily, this specific resurgence is occurring via State of Decay 2, the sequel to Undead Labs' zombie survival title from 2013.
Occasionally, there are games that just totally capture my attention due to the sheer joy that seems to be a part of its very core. Enter The Swords of Ditto by onebitbeyond. Even if the title was a single-player only affair I'd be all in, but the fact that it's two player couch co-op bumps this up to my "anticipated games" list.
Things are starting to pick up once more for game releases, so we decided to check out two titles this past Monday instead of the usual one. First up, we dive into Heroes of Hammerwatch and wander around the mines for a bit before deciding we'd rather go to space. So, we hop into our ships and take off in RiftStar Raiders.
For Honor players (or what remains of them, at least), have long been stifled in their online forays by instability and host migration issues. In spite of these problems, they persisted, and with good reason, as the game's unique melee combat is a joy to behold.
