While it had a number of issues at launch, and even after, Assassin's Creed Unity was still a pretty fun co-op title. Getting a group of friends together to plot and execute a stealthy assassination (before it all inevitably turns into a Benny Hill skit) is the best way to enjoy that game. The latest Humble Bundle lets you get in on the assassination action with that and several other AC titles all for the low, low price of $15.
Hey let's all have a great 2017 with a new map in Overwatch! At least, that's what I'm guessing Blizzard was thinking?
Modern games have a somewhat natural life-cycle where they initially emerge, sink back down, float back up for a sale, and repeat thanks to digital marketplaces. The boxed copies of a title will usually shuffle about in retail for a good year or so after initial release, but it's the digital side of things that tends to keep a title going. As of today, the digital life for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan is at an end.
Hard to believe it was 20 years ago that I first descended into the depths of Hell in search of the Lord of Terror (and some quality loot). Diablo was released on December 31, 1996 and its arrival marked a new beginning for, and in some ways the actual definition of, the action-RPG genre. To celebrate the title's release, Blizzard is injecting a little of the world of Sanctuary into all of its games.
Hard to believe that Billy and his brother Jimmy are turning 30 years old this year. To celebrate the occasion, Arc System Works is releasing a brand new game for the Lee brothers: Double Dragon IV. Rather than go for the modern animated look of Neon, this one is going decidedly retro.
It's always interesting to try to sum up an entire year worth of gaming and see what stands out. This year I wouldn't say there was any clear "winner" or "trend" in co-op gaming. VR burst onto the scene and we're just scratching the surface there, but otherwise we had a solid mix of both AAA and Indie releases.
A fairly quiet month overall, here's some of what you missed as 2016 came to a close.
Amazon is having a "Digital Day" today, offering deep discounts on digital downloads through their online store. While this traditionally is a PC only sale, we do see quite a few offers on PS4 and Xbox One titles as well. There is A LOT on sale, and we'll highlight some of the co-op goodies below. But if there's anything Santa didn't deliver this year, you might want to check it out.
The rock-tastic Super Dungeon Bros got its first update earlier this week. Along with being compatible on Mac systems now, the title received a few needed tweaks to the co-op. Specifically, private lobbies and lower player counts for online play.
The first piece of DLC for Dead Rising 4 dropped on Wednesday. While holiday-themed DLC is all the rage this time of year, it feels a little appropriate for Frank to be getting a Santa suit. After all, he is returning to Willamette at Christmas.
You can enjoy defending towers, solve underground puzzles, and even go on a grand platforming adventure with some buddies next month. January's Games With Gold will include Deathtrap for the Xbox One, and The Cave and Rayman Origins for the Xbox 360.
We suspected this would be coming, as the zombie mode in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare has space for other "movies" in the game setup. When the Sabotage DLC arrives next month for the PlayStation 4, the "Scooby" gang will be shifting from the '80 in "Zombies in Spaceland" to the '90s with "Rave in the Redwoods."
