One of the most exciting aspects of the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has to be its Zombies mode. The 4-player online co-op mode will feature a return to round-based gameplay, two new maps, and a suspenseful story. Thanks to today's trailer and official blog post, we now know the Zombies scenario and characters as well.
Massive Monster and Devolver Digital's Cult of the Lamb will soon be getting the free "Unholy Alliance" update that will add local co-op to the popular roguelite game. That's a big addition that puts the game squarely on our radar in the hallowed halls of Co-Optimus. But wait, there's more! The "Pilgrim Pack" DLC will be arriving on the same date, August 12, and it adds new story content, quests, follower forms, and more.
Now that Earth Defense Force 6 is finally available in English worldwide, PlayStation and Steam players are working their way through the game's 146 missions and five difficulty levels. It took yours truly a solid two weeks and 70 hours or so to complete the game on Hard difficulty, but I've still got the Hardest and Inferno difficulties to tackle. Since it arrived on Steam Early Access at the beginning of the year, Enshrouded has developed a very enthusiastic following. Keen Games continually publishes updates to add more content and refine the game. Case in point: the "Back to the Shroud" update adds difficulty configuration options, more character customization options, and a host of decorative items for the player's base. This should all help the game's 16-player online co-op experience be even more engaging.
Long ago, a tower defense game called Plants vs. Zombies took the world by storm. It was super good, we miss it, and shame on Popcap and EA for not making more mainline PvZ games. Luckily, Prikol Team and ESDigital Games are ready to fill that need with their new Steam release of Cats on Duty. This game has a serious PvZ vibe plus plenty of fresh ideas of its own. It's out now on Steam, and console versions are coming later this year.
Back in the Xbox 360 days, Castle Crashers captured the hearts of gamers with its addictive beat 'em up RPG gameplay and brilliant artwork and humor. The game would later be ported to modern consoles as Castle Crashers Remastered. While a sequel has yet to materialize, it turns out that The Behemoth actually has something in store for Castle Crashers fans: new DLC. The catch is that new DLC is only coming to Steam, but we can hope for a console release someday.
In late 2023, The Behemoth released Alien Hominid Invasion on Xbox, Switch, and Steam, a roguelite spin-off of the classic run-and-gun shooter, Alien Hominid HD. PlayStation fans were left out in the cold, forced to stare through a frosted window while the cool kids got to play alien. Thankfully, both Alien Hominid Invasion and Alien Hominid HD have now been announced for PlayStation 4 and 5.
While The Behemoth is best known for their Alien Hominid and Castle Crashers franchises, once upon a time, the studio made a really unique platformer called BattleBlock Theater. Well, the Steam version of BattleBlock Theater is getting a nice update soon. That's really cool, but even better, the game will be coming to modern consoles as well!
Two years ago, Arc System Works released River City Saga: Three Kingdoms, a game that combined the famous Three Kingdoms story with characters from the River City/Kunio-kun franchise. Now it's getting a sequel called River City Saga: Three Kingdoms Next. The sequel promises more historical drama and beat downs, the ability to ride a motorcycle, and 4-player local and online co-op.
Expeditions: A Mudrunner Game is a spinoff of the Mudrunner and Snowrunner series from Focus Entertainment. This one launched as a single-player game, but online co-op was always a promised feature. That promise has come to pass in the latest update for the Steam version, adding 4-player online co-op. PC players can now explore mountains, forests, and other exotic locales together as a driving team.
