Sony's Killzone 3 is upon us and with it comes PlayStation Move and 3D Support - the two big features being touted on the box. But one other feature tucked away in the main menu is a two player co-op mode, playable locally in split screen. Here's our review.
Two big games are out today fighting for your hard earned dollar. Both feature some form of co-op combined with some intense looking first person shooter action.
Killzone 3 launches tomorrow exclusively on the PlayStation 3 - and to gear you up for the series' first foray into co-op (it's local only) we have two brand new trailers that we scoured from the depths of YouTube.
Hot on the heals of yesterday's pre-order deal with Bulletstorm (which is still good) - Co-Optimus member kevinclough points out that Killzone 3 is featuring the same $20 pre-order bonus. That is - if you pre-order the two player local co-op Killzone 3 through Amazon for $58, you'll get $20 in credit towards another video game purchase. You can even get release day delivery on the game!
Have you not picked up Sony's big black box yet? Well, now may be the time to act. On February 22, the PS3 and Killzone 3 package will be available. The good folks over at CVG spotted the bundle listed on Amazon.com, and Sony recently confirmed it. Here's a little pro tip; if you can find it on Amazon, then it's probably real. They don't make stuff up for fun. (Unless it's George R. R. Martin's A Dance of Dragons. That's been listed since 2008, and it is never coming out. Curse you, Zach G.)
With 70 minutes of cutscenes to sit through, Killzone 3 players are going to be itching for some action in between. Visceral action. Satisfying, blood-curdling, Helghast-killing action. And what better way to celebrate the end of yet another pre-rendered cutscene than with a suppressed Stahl Arms StA-52SE assault rifle?
When the two player co-op game Killzone 3 is released exclusively for the PlayStation 3 in February, you're gonna want to make sure you are stocked up on popcorn and soda. It's been revealed the game contains over 70 minutes of cutscenes, that's according to the BBFC which rated the game an 18+. According to Eurogamer this rating, the ESRB equivalent of M for Mature, isn't just for bloody content - but for plenty of foul language. But don't think this is like Bulletstorm, where it appears random swear words are thrown together for comedic effect.

Although Guerrilla Games surely has the word "art" in mind as they painstakingly craft this beautiful game, I'm not so sure they meant to turn the Helghast into modern living room decor. Yet the soft filters and soothing light blooms of the latest batch of Killzone 3 screenshots lends it more to a lithogram than to expressing the inherent danger of other-worldly enemies.
The on again, off again, relationship that Killzone 3 has with co-op gameplay appears to be on again. We think for good this time. According to an interview at 1UP with the game's managing director, Herman Hulst, Killzone 3 will have at the very least, 2 player split-screen co-op support. Details are still sketchy as to exactly what that co-op is - whether its campaign, a survival mode, or something else [UPDATE See below] - but we do know that Guerilla has spent a lot of time optimizing the engine to render two screens at once...despite it being "a lot of work."
