When Dead Island: Epidemic was announced, many scoffed at the change in genre for the franchise. Deep Silver, looking to capitalize on the free to play market, have created a game that blends their series with MOBAs and to some degree, action RPGs. To our surprise there's also a dedicated co-op horde mode built into the game for four players. As these impressions are based on early beta versions of the game, a lot of this could change, but there's a good base here to get an idea what Deep Silver has planned.
After getting acquired by Zynga in the fall of 2012, development studio A Bit Lucky has finally unveiled its next project. Solstice Arena aims to bring the fast-paced combat found in the multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) genre to phones and tablets, all without sacrificing gameplay depth or graphics quality. Battles will be three on three and feature full online support, because six people using one phone just isn't fun.
Monolith has been pretty great about releasing videos for their upcoming console MOBA, Guardians of Middle-Earth. Previously, we've shared with you guys videos outlining six of the heroes for the game so far. Today, we have a developer diary video for your viewing pleasure.
We've been impressed so far by what we've seen from Guardians of Middle-Earth, the upcoming action MOBA for consoles. As some of you may know, one of the biggest draw to these types of games is the different characters and how they vary in playstyle from each other. Monolith is certainly aware of this, as they've been doing a series of videos showcasing heroes, breaking down each of their skills. Gollum, Gandalf, Galadriel, and Uglúk have all been presented in previous such videos.
Back in May, we caught wind that console MOBA Awesomenauts would possibly be getting not just one, but two new characters in an upcoming free patch. Looks like the information was good, as we recently got word that patch 1.1 will indeed include Coco Nebulon and Derpl Zork, rounding out the Awesomenauts roster to 8 characters.
Everyone's favorite* MOBA for the consoles, Awesomenauts, is getting an update to help ensure the game is well and truly balanced for all. Tweaks like this are quite common for a game within this genre, or really games as a whole. After all, any game that involves mutliple characters with various skills may not be quite perfect enough at launch as players will always find ways of using (and exploiting) skills and abilities that developers may not have anticipated during development. Awesomenauts is no exception to this as the bulk of changes being made are just these types of tweaks.
Many of you are likely aware of the fast-growing and popular PC genre known as MOBAs (Multiplayer Online Battle Arenas). Once only found as mods to RTS games, MOBAs have been taking the world by storm for the past few years, spawning communities numbering in the millions. The nature of the games have mostly restricted them to the PC, but Awesomenauts dares to ask why a MOBA can't succeed in the console world. What's the verdict? Find out in our co-op review.
Iron Clad Games, developers of Sins of a Solar Empire, have announced their next game. It's called Sins of a Dark Age and is a brand new game that's not exactly related to the aforementioned space series of a similar name. Set in a fantasy world the game looks to combine Defense of the Ancients (think League of Legends) style gameplay with more traditional RTS mechanics.
This month for MMO Co-Opportunities we look at Dragon Nest, a newly open-beta'ed F2P MMO with an action twist and the recently announced various editions of Star Wars: the Old Republic. We also visit the world of MOBAs.
