Remember that Overtrike Fuse trailer from E3 2011? Boy, that sure looked cool. Then Insomniac changed the look and feel of the game and dropped this video on us. People were considerably less impressed, if Youtube "Likes" and "Dislikes" are anything to go by...
We recently told you how Insomniac's first multiplatform game, Overstrike, has now become a game called Fuse. The title refers to a plot point about some alien goo that's since been weaponized by the government. Unfortuantely that weapon gets stolen and it's up to the Overstrike 9 team to recover. The renaming of the game was for a multitude of reasons, but one thing hasn't change, and that's a focus on co-op.
Insomniac's first multiplatform game was announced at E3 in 2011, but it was surprisingly absent at 2012's show. Overstrike was announced as a four player co-op action game being published by EA, which is reason enough to be excited, but with the Insomniac name behind it we're chomping at the bit.
Insomniac recently announced that the Resistance series has been concluded, with CEO Ted Price simply stating in an interview: "We won't be making any more Resistances." This may be disappointing to some of us co-op-minded folks, as Resistance 3 was a pretty solid co-op experience (we gave it a 4.5 out of 5). The good news, though, is that Insomniac will be focusing their efforts on upcoming Overstrike, another co-op shooter. What's more is that Overstrike will be available on both 360 and PS3 platforms, unlike the Resistance games, which were Playstation only. If Insomniac is planning on making Overstrike their shooter franchise in place of Resistance, then that would mean that more co-op'ers would be included, which can only be a good thing.
Overstrike was revealed at E3 as Insomniac's first multiplatform game, one being published by EA. We haven't heard much on the title since then, but CVG was lucky enough to catch up with the game's creative director at Gamescom earlier this month to dig up some dirt. What did they find? A quote that should make co-op gamers pretty excited for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 title.
