Toy Soldiers: Cold War to Bring Co-Op to the Battlefield
Rambo doesn't need a tank as back up
The latest thing to come about for the co-op-eriffic Fable 3 is a handful of DLC. We've seen dog skins, weapon packs, new locations, and a bit more storyline to supplement the royal storyline for Fable 3. Traitor's Keep is one of those storyline packs that gives you a taste of life beyond the mainland. Life in a giant island prison facility called Ravenscar Keep, and boy is it the very definition of "Oops."
Heading to Boston this weekend for the 2011 PAX East Expo? I hope you have a ticket, because according to the official PAX Twitter account the expo is sold out. With 60,000 expected attendees, exhibitors and media on hand it's going to be quite the affair at the Boston Convention and Exhibition center.
The prolific Lego titles are at it again. Today we have two new videos from Traveller's Tales, the makers of the Lego games. The first video is a preview of the new Lego Pirates of the Caribbean game. The title will cover all four movies, and it is set to release May 13th, around the same time as the fourth film On Stranger Tides. The second trailer is a cut scene from the upcoming Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars, which should be out March 22nd. You can check out a demo on Xbox LIVE. It appears the games will have the same sense of humor that has helped them appeal to gamers of all ages. Both Lego titles should be available on every major system, as well as support two player co-op.
Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime is due out this month. The four player local or online top down shooter is looking promising, even if it has a new cast of characters. The latest video we have pushes the four player co-op, and you will be glad to know that the developers have removed the chance of "total protonic reversal". Now crossing the streams is only bad form at urinals.
The PixelJunk franchises have usually skirted actual sequels for expansions or 'Encores'. PixelJunk Shooter 2 is a proper sequel to the fan favorite PixelJunk Shooter. Has the series taken a step forward, or is this just more of the same (pixel)junk? Find out in our Co-Op Review.
My all-time personal favorite co-op game remains Rainbow Six: Vegas 2. If you're like me, you've been waiting for a "Six fix" for a while now. Luckily Gameloft has just the prescription to keep you distracted until Ubi comes through, and it's in the form of a portable first-person shooter fast-roping onto the iPhone App Store on March 17th.
Last week at GDC, Epic Games showed off a new version of the Unreal Engine 3 that boasted a ton of new features. To showcase this, they created a demo called "The Samaritan." In a look and setting that clearly looks inspired from Bladerunner, we see a rainy futuristic city with neon lights reflected in every puddle. A man on a rooftop witnesses a beating and jumps in to help out.
It wasn't long ago we were introduced to Defenders of Ardania - a co-op tower defense game from Paradox Interactive for Xbox Live Arcade, PSN, PC and iPad. The game is set in the world of Majesty - players assume the role of one of three races and utilize 24 different attacking or defending units. It's an interesting take on the tower defense genre which usually has you sitting back constantly defending, instead, players seem to be taking on both roles in Defenders of Ardania.
Who packs a girl instead of a parachute?
This issue of On The Download gets to me so much I made up a word to best illustrate how this makes gamers feel. Have you noticed that when a game comes out on one system but doesn’t hit the other systems at the same time, the later port of the game often comes with different, improved features?
Pon-pon-patapon! The quirky strategy/rhythm hybrid series' third installment, aptly titled Patapon 3, has had a demo available since last summer, believe it or not. It appears the long wait for the full release of the game is nearly over. Patapon 3 will finally hit retail shelves and the PSN next month, on April 12. Multiplayer, including a four-player co-op mode, will be returning, in addition to the standard single player campaign. I can't recall the last time there was such a long stretch between the demo and the game's release; I guess that's one more little quirk in a game full of unique stuff.
