This month for MMO Co-Opportunities, we have a nice mix of the new and the old. We take a look at changes that RIFT is making to its Patron system, the new things that Guild Wars 2’s Winter 2016 Quarterly Update added, and the excitement beginning to build for the North American release of Black Desert Online. RIFT Provides More Bonuse...
You've got a limited time (just 10 more days!) to pick up the gorgeous/fun platformer Rayman Origins, and the also good Splinter Cell: Blacklist for just $9.99. $9.99? Actually, it's more like $8.01 but I felt like being topically relevant to a tax commercial.
The Co-Opticrew is truly in the pockets of Big Gaming this weekend, as large swaths of our time will be spent with the classic AAA franchises of old: Halo, Diablo, Final Fantasy, and Pokemon. A couple of us are trying to fight against the current via a combination of smaller video game titles and tabletop experiences, but will it be enough to stem the tide of high production values and fancy explosions? Who's to say.
What exactly makes one "King of the Wasteland"? Is it their ability to wield a golden grenade launcher or rusty shovel? Is it their piles of money or crystalline skin? No, I'd argue that one becomes Post-nuclear Royalty through one trait and one trait only - resilience.
I know what you're thinking. Why is a website dedicated to co-op gaming giving away XCOM 2, which doesn't feature co-op? Well, we have a code, you want it, we like you, so we're giving it to you. How's that for an answer? We were pretty happy with XCOM: Enemy Unknown so we have reason to believe that XCOM 2 will be stellar as well. While there's no co-op built-in to the game, you can always play-and-pass the game with your favorite couch co-op partner. Or you could let your partner play, then use your mind control skills on them to take over during the good parts.
The older you get, the more you are schooled when playing online, those young whippersnappers seem to always have the edge. Well not on Tom Clancy's The Division as a new information video has been released introducing some of the skills so that the likes of me can get to grips with the game early.
Gearbox has really been stepping it up with the hero reveals for its upcoming "hero shooter" Battleborn. Two more heroes have just been announced for the game, both of them hulking monsters. They go by the names Attikus and Galilea.
This indie title slipped off our radar last fall, but it hadn't been forgotten, Castle Chaos is a local multiplayer game for up to four people, or you can team up with friends to take down A.I. enemies. Anyone who remembers Rampart from the olden days of gaming may find the title's action quite familiar. Build up your castle using "Tetris-like" pieces, place some cannons inside, and blow up your neighbor.
After what felt like 30 attempts at the Prison Break finale in GTA Online, we finally broke Rashkovsky out and got his butt on a plane. It was probably more like 10 attempts, but after all the bugs, glitches, poor decisions, bad luck, and irritating design flaws, this mission was really starting to wear us thin. The Friday Awesomely Live Co-Op crew doesn't give up though, and I must say, our final successful run makes us look like professionals. Ok, maybe that's a stretch, but it was relatively flawless.
Coming in at twice the geographic size of the base game, Dying Light's next DLC, "The Following", can seem a little overwhelming to any would-be zombie exterminators. Trust me, I know the feeling. You start to think back to all the places you didn't see when you first played the game last year, then you consider all the DLC's extra content, the new daily quest system, and all those zombie heads just ripe for the kicking. Next thing you know, you've quit your job, moved to Ecuador, changed your name to Ernesto, and purchased enough tortillas and rice to tide you over for the next 6 months, which should be just enough time to fully explore everything.
Astro Gaming has long held a a reputable place in co-op gamer's library of devices. Their headsets and mixamps make communication during gaming a breeze and the sound quality top notch. We've seen the A40's for consoles, A38s for portables, and the A50s for PC. But today we're looking at an evolution of their A40 lineup - the A40 TR which works for just about everything. An enhanced "Tournament Ready" version of their best selling headset.
Wandering through the large, open world of Fallout can be a little lonely. Sure, you can drag along an NPC companion, but they will just stand in the line of fire, aggro deathclaws, and make you overprotective (looking at you, Dogmeat). NV:MP has a solution for Fallout: New Vegas PC players in a free mod that allows for multiplayer.
