Our Weekend In Gaming: Magic Dynasty of Apathy Edition

It seems several staff members are feeling a bit "meh" at the moment.  Maybe it's the fact that summer is tantalizingly close but still weeks away.  Maybe it's the fact that we want to be playing all the upcoming fall releases RIGHT NOW.  Or, maybe it's just too much too plan it all out.  Sometimes, rolling with it and playing whatever you want to on impulse is ok!

Comedy Central's "Ugly Americans" Coming to Consoles

Comedy Central's Ugly Americans is getting a video game treatment.  The animated series focuses on a social worker for the Department of Integration named Mark Lilly.  Set in New York City, the series focuses on Mark's interactions with NYC citizens, most of whom are some form of monster.  Mark narrates the episodes, which use thinly veiled metaphors and allegory to get the point across, something akin to Zach Braff's summation at the end of an episode of Scrubs.  I've actually seen a few shows and it doesn't totally suck.  It doesn't blow my skirt up, either, but I stopped wearing skirts after college.

"Carpe Zoo" - Black Ops Escalation Map Pack Declassified

The next downloadable map pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops - Escalation - has been outed by Australian games retailer GAME. In true Treyarch fashion, a new Zombies map will be included. Named "Call of the Dead", the co-op survival board joins four competitive maps (that should be playable in the pseudo-cooperative mode Combat Training as well), respectively named Zoo, Hotel, Convoy, and Stockpile.

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier Sound Team Goes Shooting

Here's a neat little bit of news that crosses over from another of my hobbies: guns! Red Storm Entertainment, the team behind the Rainbow Six series and the upcoming Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, recently had some fun at the shooting range in an effort to capture raw audio material. Accompanied by UNCTV.org's David Huppert and an ex-SWAT armorer, the sound designers got their hands on some interesting pistols, fully automatic carbines, and even a .50-caliber BMG sniper rifle.

Pysko Audio Unveils Two New Headsets

Psyko Audio have announced two new headsets for the co-op gamer both based on the same technology found in their Psyko 5.1 Headset.  These cans are unique, because instead of using computer simulation to create surround sound out of two speakers in your ears, they actually contain 5 speakers in the band and utilize a physics based technology to create real surround sound.

Upcoming Indie Tower Defense Game Puts You In the Middle of the Action

Have you ever had a moment when playing a tower defense game when you've sat back and marvelled at the insanity your avatar must be witnessing from their point of view? Upcoming indie tower defense game Sanctum won't leave these kind of crazy thoughts merely to your imagination, as it will put you head-on into the madness, FPS-style. The premise places you as an elite soldier whose home planet is being overrun by aliens. As with standard TD games, you'll be able to construct and upgrade towers (through a standard, zoomed-out perspective). Once the waves of enemies start, however, your character will also be able to actively shoot them with a variety of weapons from a first-person perspective.

New Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 3 Trailer

Is the latest Dynasty Warriors game not doing it for you?  Are you sick of ancient Chinese history, but you love slaughtering endless waves of enemies while mashing the "destroy," "destroy harder," and "destroy hardest" buttons?  Maybe you need a heaping spoonful of giant robot.  Check out this new trailer for Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 3.  No Yellow Turbans, no Cao Cao, and no horses.  Plenty of giant robots, though.  Or should I call them mobile suits?  Nah, "Giant Robot" sounds better than "Mobile Suit."
