Being a criminal is hard. You're pulling heists like every other day. You're always searching for new places to hide your wads of cash and other totally legal assets. You're constantly being harassed by those gosh-darned police. What's a 40-something with his or her best gun-totin' days behind them to do? Easy: start up their own criminal enterprise.
In my experience, working with voodoo typically amps up one's enjoyment a few notches. Whether you're at a party, chatting with some work friends, or just blasting baddies in an emergent, misty landscape, adding in a few knotted roots and animal bones is always a recipe for a grand ol' time.
If I had to man a spacecraft with different species of astronauts, I'd probably go "actual person," "sign language monkey," and then "Russian dog" for precedent's sake. Throw in a handful more mammals and we're golden. I don't think "goat" would make my top 15 though, much less rank as core crew.
What happened in May? It seemed we were blasted with video game releases of all sizes and shapes. Battleborn obviously took the spotlight early on, but then we saw subsequent AAA after AAA game. Sure not all of them are co-op, we're looking at you DOOM, but damn are they fun.
When last we left the stalwart heroes of Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide, everything was awful. It's not like the Warhammer universe is exactly brimming with hope, but current events blew the hinges off of the "How Terrible Is This?" Meter. The ravenous Skaven have taken the city of Ubersreik as you and your three co-op buddies flee the apocalyptic invasion. Not that it really matters all that much because the world is ending. That's like finding out your car was the victim of a piano tumbling out of a 18th story high rise suite, only to look up in time to see the sun explode.
There's been a lot of different genres intermixed with one another over the past few years. Developer Sloclap is taking that mixing to a new level, it seems, with their first big title, Absolver. Described as an "online combat RPG," the game appears to be a blend between fighting games and dungeon crawlers in a manner that is reminiscent, to me, of Konami's Hybrid Heaven.
When I first started the monthly Indie-Ana Co-Op article, the idea was to focus on the (then) burgeoning indie games market and to sift through the numerous titles in Xbox Live Indie Games. One of those titles was Score Rush, a bullet-hell shmup from Xona Games. Five years later, the game will see a release on the PlayStation 4 this Thursday with a new title, Score Rush Extended.
