Alas, ye poor souls. You who thought that 2016 would be a year filled with dragons, taming, and any combination therein will have to focus your energies elsewhere. I know, I know. It's disappointing. I, too, was hopeful for the chance to explore a soon-to-be-burning countryside with a few pals, but it's looking like PlatinumGames, the folks working on Xbox One-exclusive Scalebound, don't feel quite comfortable with pushing the game out this year.
With 2015 in the books we thought we'd look back at the year and see what the most popular highlights were for our readers. Looking over the top stories it's surprising to see some things in the list, namely Rock Band 4, Warhammer: End of Times Vermintide. We all but thought that the music genre was dead but Rock Band 4 proved to us otherwise, folks still enjoy their fake plastic instruments with friends. And Warhammer: EoTV came out of nowhere to be one of the best co-op games we played this year.
Those of us without a Windows OS will finally have the chance to delve into the world of Source Hunting alone or with a companion. If you haven't already played, Divinity:Original Sin - Enhanced Edition is an isometric turn based RPG with an incredibly in depth story, versatile skill progression that does not restrict you to one class, and a large, vibrant world to explore. You can choose to play on your Steam Box, or with a Linux or Mac OS. The availability of cross-platform multiplayer will provide a flood of new allies, whether this is your first play through or you are a seasoned veteran.
2015 is in the books people. It was a somewhat quiet year for co-op games until the Fall season in which we saw Battlefront, Call of Duty, Halo 5, a Gears of War remake and much more. We had a ton of contests to give away stuff and played a bunch of great games.
One of the key selling points of Bloodborne's DLC, The Old Hunters, was the addition of new weapons, which is both a good and bad thing. It's nice that the new weapons offer players more choices in what to use - as well as making some builds more viable - but the ability to max out those weapons was limited as the item needed to do so could only be acquired once per playthrough. Until now.
Though there were some teases shown for the UAE and other territories, the Collector's Edition of Dark Souls 3 for the U.S. has been revealed. Additionally, the release date for the game has been firmed up to April 12 from the previous tentative date of April 24.
Blowing the brains out of some cybernetically-enhanced non-American in a video game might not have the same pysche-crushing effect as doing so in real life, but you don't know what's going on behind the scenes. Ubisoft announced earlier this month that the closed beta for its upcoming title, Tom Clancy's The Division, would be delayed until "early 2016." Anyone who has pre-ordered the game will still get access to the beta, and others who have signed up via the game's website may be invited as well.
When you can't update your old game anymore, just get the players to do it! While Trendy Entertainment works on the sequel, players expressed an interest in keeping Dungeon Defenders alive and ticking. So, with the developer's blessing, the first Community Development Team patch was released, and it's more than just "hey this'd be cool" stuff, too!
Techland's Dying Light hasn't even been out a full calendar year, but the team has been hard at work on updates and DLCs. It's almost like, I dunno, they're being chased by zombies or something. Several announcements over the holidays teased Dying Light: The Following - Enhanced Edition, a new release that improves upon the original and adds some fantastic new features.
Swipe the Twix wrappers off the couch, you're gonna need the extra seat. Studio Wildcard has confirmed its open world game ARK: Survival Evolved will get a local splitscreen mode on the Xbox One. And they said splitscreen was on its way out. Pshaw!
Earlier this week the Steam Winter Sale started up, marking the official start to the seasonal savings PC gamers have come to expect over the years. Other PC gaming retailers as always have begun their own sales to compete, such as Origin and digital retailer Green Man Gaming, both with hundreds of games discounted in their own respective sales.
