Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World is a fine game, especially for gamers who grew up playing titles like River City Ransom in days of yore.  Even those playing it without nostalgia goggles can appreciate the lovingly crafted art style, amazing soundtrack, and the upgrades system, much deeper than the typical brawler.  To coincide with the November release of the film on Blu-ray and DVD, a DLC pack is being released.  A new character, arena battles, and a dodgeball mode can be yours for the reasonable price of $2.

Casltevania: Harmony of Despair has some downloadable content available today.  We brought you the news when a picture of the pyramid level leaked back in early August.  The Pyramid of Ruins is the name of the map, based on a level from Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin.  The chapter is called 'Beauty, Desire, Situation Dire.'  Interesting.  I wrote a poem with that exact same title when I was in the fifth grade.  I think it was about my waning interest in G.I.Joe and my budding affection for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  Either that--or I had just discovered breasts.

Living up to its namesake, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier has gone spectral over the last few months; very small and less-than-significant tidbits have popped up here and there, but for the most part the game has avoided the radar. This week Computer and Video Games magazine online scored an interview with associate producer Justin Drust, who finally confirmed four-player co-op throughout the campaign.

We've been keeping you up to date on Red Dead Redemption's upcoming zombie DLC.  The Undead Nightmare pack is due out this year.  The good folks over at Rockstar have some shiny new screen shots for us.  And if that title picture isn't the coolest thing you've seen all day then you must be some sort of undead-cowboy-space-ninja-robot.  Good for you!

 Gearbox Studios has worked up an impressive resume.  The Texas-based company has developed games for such distinguished franchises such as Half-Life, Halo, Brothers in Arms, and Counterstrike.  Last year they saw commercial and critical success with the super co-op friendly Borderlands.  Randy Pitchford, Gearbox's CEO and president, recently spoke with Major Nelson about co-op, Borderlands latest DLC, and effing Duke Nukem Forever.  Here are some of his more quotastic quotes. 

While Mommy's Best Games was hoping to launch their two player co-op game Explosionade this week, it appears a few delays in the Xbox Live Indie Games approval process have pushed it to next week.  Not to worry, we're here to quench that thirst with a brand new trailer of the game in action.

Kirby's Epic Yarn is one of those games that could potentially sell a Nintendo Wii to me...if I didn't already have one. The truth is: I do, and this may be the ticket to getting the duster out and seeing if the Wii still works.

Here it is late September, and we have our first Guitar Hero release of 2010.  Hard to believe, after the multiplicity of releases in 2009, isn't it?  Guitar Hero Warriors of Rock boasts a large playlist, a shredding Quest mode, and promises a return to the roots of the series.  If that's not enough for you, there are some impressive incentives to sweeten the deal available for early buyers.

Last year, one of the best titles to hit the Wii came and went without much in the way of sales.  Dead Space Extraction was extremely well reviewed by critics, earning an excellent 4.5 here at Co-Optimus, yet the horrific lightgun shooter failed to move many units.  According to developer Visceral Games, that didn't bother them too much.

During the last week there has been one thing on just about every co-op players mind: Halo Reach. In the spirit of keeping things interesting and undeniably cooperative, Tally Callahan and Katrina Pawlowski have picked up a few field-hours in the world of Firefight - Tally for the first time, and Katrina for the second time (in Reach). Here is a bit of a guide written by the girls just having fun playing Firefight - not to be taken entirely seriously.

Capcom has announced the first official co-op game for the Nintendo 3DS called Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D.  The game takes the best mercenaries missions from Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5 and allows gamers to team up in co-op play.  These missions challenge players to defeat as many enemies as possible while scoring the most points they can in a set period of time.  Of course all of this happens in "stunning 3D"  - something only PC owners were privileged enough to experience in RE5.

We're never one to shy away from headsets here at Co-Optimus, after all, as a parent and as co-op gamers, being able to communicate with your team mates while keeping the noise down in your surroundings is an absolute critical necessity.
