In their big multiplayer press jamboree last night, Treyarch and Activision took the veil off of the new competitive modes for Call of Duty: Black Ops. Interestingly, the game's versus side seems to be focusing more on a free-for-all style and less on teamwork. Go figure.
The first batch of DLC is out now for Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days. Packed in its loot bag is a ton of goodies including maps, weapons, and masks for your co-op multiplayer experience. Previously most of this content was available as exclusive pre-order bonuses. The good news is this should add quite a bit of content to both Kane and Lynch 2's arcade mode and multiplayer online modes. The bad news is there's $11 worth of DLC here.
We were quite impressed with Monday Night Combat, which launched earlier this summer. It did many things right: deep class based gameplay, a good dose of humor, mixing tower defense with a shooter, and, of course, perennial Co-Optimus forum favorite, split-screen online co-op. I know I've had a great time playing the game, as have many others. However, there were a few nagging issues that needed to be addressed, most notably the fact that there's just one co-op map.
It's another week, another set of deals for Xbox Live Gold members, and for fans of co-op, they are especially good deals at that. First person brawler Zeno Clash is down to a mere 800 points, while twin-stick shooter Alien Breed Evolution will set you back half that at 400 points. Both together are a decent bit of co-op alien killin' for less than the cost of a couple movie tickets. There's even a deal on the co-op "Swarm" map pack for Aliens Vs. Predator, at 400 points, so if aliens alone aren't enough, toss a few extraterrestrial, dreadlocked hunters in for good measure.
The previously announced Toy Box DLC for Crackdown 2 has a date and that date is...tomorrow! That's September 2nd.

Imagine this scenario. You and a buddy are playing some good old fashioned Streets of Rage 2 on Xbox Live Arcade. You're making your way through the levels as Axel and Blaze punching skaters, bikers and bad guys in the face over and over. But something isn't quite right, you're accidently grabbing your co-op partner one too many times, you're finding it hard to execute that dash move, and you can't quite put your finger on what's wrong.
We don't typically report on mods for games that often, but every once in a while, something comes along that we have to share. A rather... cinematic mod for Sins of a Solar Empire gives the game a Star Wars-themed makeover. But the changes go beyond the cosmetic, with two new races, over two dozen new ships, character portraits, music, and lots more. They even changed the color of ship lasers to match those in the films!
Last Fall's go to four player co-op game, Borderlands, is going to see a re-release on October 12th this year in a package entitled "Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition." The compilation will come included with all available DLC - that's Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot, The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, The Secret Armory of General Knoxx, and a code for the upcoming Claptrap's New Robot Revolution.
Combat pilots on the go will be happy to know that Ace Combat Joint Assault is on deck and taking off in stores today. A squad of up to four flyboys can work together throughout the campaign - the Joint Assault Mission System provides multiple objectives for two pairs of wingmen to tackle simultaneously. Let the ad-hoc and infrastructure skirmishes begin!
